THE BLOOM LAB TEAM

Lab Director (Acting), Nichole Taylor, MSc

Nichole received a BSc in Chemistry from Mount Allison University and an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from Queen’s University. She worked for twelve years in analytical chemistry lab instruction and development for the University of Victoria, including instrumental analysis. Most recently she worked at Seastar Chemicals, doing trace inorganic analysis via ICP-MS. Her duties here also included method development, validation, and quality control.

Lead Microbiologist, Ricardo Blanco Sanchez, B.Sc.

Ricardo Blanco Sanchez leads the microbiology laboratory in Bloom Labs at Perennia. His focus is on developing, implementing, evaluating, and performing microbiological testing methods in cannabis. He will also contribute to maintaining quality assurance standards for food and plant analysis at Perennia.

Ricardo received a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Guelph. He joins Perennia from Parmalat Canada, where he was a Microbiology Research Scientist at the R&D facility. He brings expertise on shelf-life studies, environmental monitoring, and pathogen control. His last role at Parmalat primarily focused on managing the environmental pathogen program, under ISO 17025 accreditation standards.

Ricardo is native to Venezuela but grew up in London, Ontario. He is excited to live in Nova Scotia and explore the Canadian Maritimes.

Analytical Technician, Ceildih MacDonald, BSc.

Ceilidh graduated with a BSc Honours in Chemistry in 2015 from Cape Breton University where she was involved in analytical and biochemistry research. She went on to receive a Diploma in Forensic Science from Saint Mary’s University in 2017. After university Ceilidh worked as an analytical lab technician at Maxxam Analytics where she did work detecting hydrocarbons in waters and soils.

Ceilidh joined Perennia from Yava Technologies where she was part of a research team developing purification procedures for coal mining by-products.

Microbiologist, Marsha Gratton, M.Sc.

Marsha received an MSc. in Microbiology and Immunology and has provided technical assistance to life sciences and agricultural research laboratories for several years. Prior to joining Perennia BioVentures group she was a member of the R&D team of a local animal genetics biotechnology company. Currently Marsha provides technical guidance and assistance to Perennia Innovation Centre tenants and clients and Bloom Labs. She develops and validates microbiology methods for laboratory procedures. Marsha works closely with Bloom Labs to deliver quality testing results to clients.
